Titans Will Kick Off Season Against Lakeside

This upcoming Friday, August 24, the Northview Titans (0-0, 0-0 7-AAAAAA) look forward to kicking off their season against the Lakeside Vikings (1-0, 0-0 . The Titans had a rough season last year, ending with an overall record of 2-8 and a region record of 2-6. This year is coach James Thomson’s second season with the team, meaning he has already had a season to get to know the boys and bond with the team. The season is looking bright for the Titans, especially with the help of all of the leadership from the seniors on the team.

Senior cornerback Shakur Mullings believes that this season could be different from the rest for the Titans.

“This season should be an entire turn around from last season, with coach Thomson coming in he set a new standard for Northview Football,” Mullings said.

The players are hoping that all of their hard work shows this year on the field. Senior safety Collin Ferguson believes that they are ready to show what they have been working on all summer long, as long as they are able to execute on the field.

“We’ve been workin hard all summer and we are ready to play. We need to be focused and disciplined to play well this season, we have already put in the work now we just need to execute,” Ferguson said.

The boys on the team all believe that the team has some major strengths they could capitalize on this year.

“Strengths we share as a team include intelligence, heart, and athletic playmakers in open space,” Senior receiver Christian Watson said.

“The team’s strength is our offensive line. They are the heart of the team and they get after it and work hard every day with no complaints,” senior Davon Benjamin said.

Sophomore Sam Ryan, who plays right tackle, thinks that the offensive line is improving by the day, however they still have some things to learn.

“We are improving greatly. We need to learn to be mean and nasty. We need to get angry at the other team,” Ryan said.

The Vikings are coming off a 21-20 victory over the Decatur Bulldogs in the first week. The Titans will look to suppress the momentum of the Vikings while trying to gain some momentum of their own as they kick off the season.

This season could be far different than the last for the Titans. The Titans will need all the support from their school so that they can stay motivated and inspired to keep pushing for their best this year. This Friday’s game against Lakeside will be a great test for the team and it will be a great way to set the tone for the year.
