Monday, January 29, was a successful senior night for the Northview girls varsity team (18-5, 13-2 7AAAAAA) against Cambridge (7-16, 5-10 7AAAAAA). The Lady Titans and leading scorer junior power forward Ashlee Austin were looking forward to putting on a show and earning a win for their seniors. The first quarter started slowly, Northview turning over the ball a few times, but in the closing minutes of the first they were able to pick up speed. In the second quarter, the Titans showed no mercy.
“We have seen this team many times before, so we know all their plays,” junior power forward Maya Richards said.
Cambridge was lacking the speed and energy that Northview’s girls team is known for. Going into halftime, the Titans had run the score up to 34-12, nearly tripling the Bears’ points. Northview was perfectly moving the ball faster than Cambridge could figure out what to do next.
“Their success is in their teamwork, but at the same time everyone does their job. It’s a system for victory.” coach Wesley Henderson said.
At the start of the third, Cambridge tried to wake up, but they only brought aggression that benefited Northview in the form of a boost in free throws. The Titans led comfortably in the fourth quarter by a score of 51-22, securing the paint and out-running the Bears.
“Maintaining energy is the key. Knowing that you’re better is just a plus,” Austin said.
Finishing the game with a final of 59-28 gave Northview a strong victory to continue their winning season.
