Opinion: Manchester City

Manchester City has a good chance to win the Premier League this year. Manchester City is being managed by Pep Guardiola, who is under a lot of pressure this year because he was brought in at the start of last season to win titles. Guardiola is a very well known manager, having managed two of the top clubs in the world, F.C. Barcelona and F.C. Bayern. Guardiola was very successful at these two clubs, winning seven league titles and twelve trophies.

Last year the club finished fourth out of 20 teams. This year they have gotten off to a good start, winning four out of their first five games and drawing the other, remaining undefeated. The team’s defense this year has only conceded three goals over the first five games. Their offense has done phenomenally, having scored 16 goals. The team looks fundamentally solid and is one of the top teams in the Premier League this year.

There is some stiff competition in the league, though, which explains why it’s the most watched league in the world. The teams they need to prepare for are Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham. These teams are the other top teams in the league and all finished in the top five last season. Chelsea are reigning champs and are looking to repeat.

Manchester City has brought in three more defenders and a goalie who were put directly into the starting eleven to strengthen the back line. The new players are Benjamin Mendy, Danilo, Ederson, and Kyle Walker. The club wanted to concede less goals this year as they conceded 39 goals from 38 matches. They spent a little over 155 million euros for the four additions. The new signings have made a huge impact as they already have three clean sheets from the first five games. The new additions to the team are great players but they have even better players up the field. Kevin De Bruyne is their key midfielder who creates countless chances for the team to score. Sergio Aguero is the star striker of the team, and Gabriel Jesus is another striker who can score goals and create chances for his squad. De Bruyne had 18 assists and 6 six goals, Aguero had five goals and two assists, and Jesus had seven goals and four assists last season. These three players are the key to the team’s consistent scoring success.

Guardiola is looking to have a strong defense so they can stop the opposing team’s attacks and counterattack to score. Guardiola is very possession-oriented, meaning he has his team connect lots of passes to keep possession. He wants his team to play tiki-taka, which is a lot of one touch passing and moving around to catch teams off guard with the quickness of play that opens up the defense to allow them to score. Guardiola transformed how Manchester City plays. They didn’t use to be possession oriented, but ever since he came in they connect a lot of passes now and don’t play long balls, trying to keep everything on the ground. Guardiola is under immense pressure from the board of the team because they want him to bring home some silverware this year. Manchester City has a defense that can avoid conceding goals and an offense that is the current top-scoring group in the league. The squad had a great chance this year to make waves and dominate their competition.
